The “Must Knows” Of Assisted Living

Assisted living is an important consideration for many families as their loved ones age and require additional support. It can be scary to walk into what seems to be very unknown. Here at Bel Aire Senior Living we are here to help you every step of the way! Here are some “must knows” about most all assisted living facilities. If you have more questions about our specific location, give us a call! (801)763-0622.

What is Assisted Living?

What is an assisted living facility exactly? Assisted living facilities provide housing, personal care services, and healthcare to seniors who need assistance with activities of daily living, but who do not require the intensive medical and nursing care provided in nursing homes. Typical services offered in assisted living include assistance with bathing, dressing, medication management, meal preparation, housekeeping, transportation, laundry and social activities. At both of our Bel Aire facilities we provide all of these services included within their monthly cost. Unlike most other facilities that have an extra charge for each additional service.

Individualized Care Plans

At each Assisted Living there will be someone with the job title of “Care Coordinator.” This role is highly important. They are in charge of each resident’s personalized care plan. The care plan is tailored to their specific needs and preferences. These plans are developed in collaboration with the resident, their family, healthcare professionals, and our care coordinator.

Amenities

Amenities offered by assisted living facilities can vary greatly. For instance our American Fork location offers many attractive amenities. One is our dining room. Many residents enjoy the camaraderie of their peers during meals. Others prefer to stay in their rooms to eat, which is fine as well! Our thoughtful kitchen staff will bring them a tray to their room. We also have an activities room. There they do various activities with our activities director, do puzzles, electronic mind – stimulating games, and more. We also provide a family room area and a patio for both our assisted living and memory care sides. Our residents find joy in gathering in these places. As well as gardening on the patio and playing the piano in the family room. Another amenity that is offered is our beauty salon. Each week our amazing hair dresser comes and styles the hair of whoever would like their hair done. This is always looked forward to by our sweet residents!

Staffing

Assisted living facilities employ various staff members, including caregivers, nurses, executive director, administrator, activity directors, care coordinators, marketers, and maintenance personnel. The ratio of staff to residents can impact the quality of care provided. They will be the smiling helpful faces they see everyday. Each resident will work closest to our caregivers. The other staff members they will see the most often will be our fun activities director! She has daily activities for the residents and goes out of her way to always make sure everyone feels invited and included. Our other staff members are equally as friendly as amazing but will be seen on a less regular basis but definitely whenever needed.

Transitioning

Moving into assisted living can be a significant adjustment for seniors and their families. It’s essential to involve the senior in the decision-making process and provide support during the transition. Assisted living aims to enhance the quality of life for seniors by providing a supportive environment that promotes independence, social engagement, and overall well-being. Although the initial transition could be tough for the first week or so, the overall benefits from it will be more than rewarding.

Understanding these Key points can help families make informed decisions about assisted living and ensure the best possible care for their loved ones. Take your time with making these decisions and don’t be afraid to ask questions. The more you know about each facility, the better.
